New comic book day May28

New comic book day

New comis release this Wednesday and here’s our rundown by Neil! Neil’s Pick Amazing Spider-Man #800: You can’t deny 800 issues. With Superman recently celebrating his 1000th issue of Action Comics, to see Amazing at 800 is pretty impressive. Throw in the timing of Dan Slott ending his run, and the debut of the Red Goblin, and you’ve got yourself a pretty hot little book…and one potentially crazy finale. Of course there are a few different variant covers on offer…but they’ll go…well, they may already be gone as I type this…but nevertheless, if you’re a Spidey guy, this probably is a must-own issue. Justice League No Justice #4 hits the shelves running…literally…with The Flash leading the charge for this final issue of this great mini-series. Doomsday Clock #5 is the long awaited continuation of this Universe altering line. If you’re a DC fan, you probably should be reading this series as it will define the Universe (as well as Snyder’s stuff) for the foreseeable future. Kill or Be Killed #19 and Lazarus #28 are two very popular and extremely well written Image Comics series. Finally, Brian Michael Bendis continues his roll out of his Superman books with the start of his 6 issue Man of Steel mini-series. Lots of DC annuals out this week...

New comics this week

Black Panther #1 sees our hero going cosmic, as T’Challa discovers that Wakanda stretches just a little farther than the African continent. With the character hotter than ever, and fan favourite writer Ta-Nehisi Coates continuing his run, I’m really curious to see where this goes. Incredible Hulk #717 brings this World War Hulk II storyline, as well as this run to a close. Underappreciated book, but its sold consistently well so I’m sure there are a number of people who want to check this out. Hunt for Wolverine Mystery in Mandripoor #1 sees an all-female led team on the hunt after a possible Wolverine…or ‘Patch’ sighting. Domino, Kitty Pride, Storm, Psylocke…solid line up for the 4th Hunt for Wolverine tie-in. DC kicks off the hotly anticipated Flash War in Flash #47. For fans of this book, it’s all been building to this. And finally, the final issue of James Tynion IV’s very solid run on Detective Comics. Neil’s Pick Justice League No Justice #3: If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. The first two issue have been really, really good…so I see no reason why the penultimate issue in this 4-Part mini-event won’t be really, really good too. I’m already 100% on board for whatever Scott Snyder has cooked up for his Justice League re-launch. If you’re a lapsed fan, or even a slightly event-shy collector…give this one a shot…I doubt you’ll regret...

New Comics this Wednesday...

Batman #47 continues the Batman/Booster Gold/Catwoman wedding gift gone wrong storyline from Tom King that will lead to the hotly anticipated wedding issue. Avengers #2 picks up from a very solid issue #1 as Jason Aaron guides Marvel’s Big Team. Mighty Thor: Gates of Valhala is a sort of ‘wrap up’ issue for Jane’s run as Thor…as Jason Aaron (yeah, him again) gets set for the new Thor series arriving soon! Dead Hand #2 continues this very intriguing new spy-themed Image series. Kick Ass #4 is the next installment of Mark Millar’s iconic anti-hero, while The Wild Storm #13 kicks off the third arc on this awesome Warren Ellis/Jon Davis-Hunt series. If you haven’t checked it out, I highly recommend the Vol 1 TP, with Vol 2 arriving next week! Neil’s Pick Justice League No Justice #2: Among the treasure trove of great books last week, I neglected to mention Scott Snyder’s next DC mini-event No Justice was kicking off with issue #1. Well, No Justice is off to a fantastic start (if I do say so myself) and even better…we only had to wait a week to get the second issue of this short-and-sweet 4 issue event. If I’ve learned anything about Snyder, is that he plans, outlines and executes his ‘events’ with the kind of precision and ‘bang for your buck’ that other events (and companies) could learn from. If you were at all skeptical about where Snyder was taking the Justice League…and why you were seeing who you were seeing on the covers (Sinestro? Lobo? Beast Boy??) then issue #1 (and probably #2) will go a long way to getting you on board in a hurry. Don’t sleep on this one...

New comics!

On sale this Wednesday!! Hunt for Wolverine Weapon Lost #1 is Daredevil putting together an elite team to find Wolverine. Sold. In Batman #46 Tom King continues his Eisner Nominated run with part 2 of this Booster Gold centered storyline where the hapless hero has caused some series strife on the eve of Batman and Catwoman’s wedding. Captain America #701 is the next arc of Mark Waid’s great Cap run, with artist Leonardo Romero giving the book a new look. Call me skeptical, but Marvel reboots and ‘restarts’ have become an unfortunate and almost tired norm lately, but with Jason Aaron at the helm, and Ed McGuinness on art duties, you’ve got to at least give Avengers #1 a look if you’re a comic book fan. Venomized #5 is the conclusion of this latest Venom mini-event. And finally, a shout out to my favourite writer and my favourite book East of West, Jonathan Hickman, for not only getting a credit on the Hollywood Megabuster Avengers Infinity War…but writing the pilot for the potential Amazon East of West TV series. It’s been one of, if not my favourite book for over 4+ years now…and it’s nearing the end. Neil’s Pick Death or Glory #1: It’s been a while since I’ve been this excited for a book from announcement to launch. Rick Remender always delivers when it comes to story, character and giving his books a beating heart…and throw in the incredible looking art from Bengal, and this should be on everyone’s pull list. Outlaw gangs, bank robberies, blood debts…or and some cool cars to boot. Give it a 4 issues commitment (May-Aug) starting with this 40 page debut issue, and if you’re not hooked,...
